ACADEMIC TOOLBOX NEWS DECEMBER 2008
WOW! We are in the home stretch of the year. It was a great year for us as a store! We made lots of new friends, increased our selection, and were able to help others solve some of their problems. Personally for Sharon and I, we celebrated 40 years of marriage, had a great celebration with family and friends, still enjoy working with each other! We did have though a time of sadness as our buddy, he calls us momma and papa, Cody who helps out here occasionally had his mother die at the young age of 37. We grieve with him and his two brothers and respect him for the way he is coping. Life throws us some curves but it is amazing how God can produce good from bad. Our Thanksgiving dinner was Sharon and I with nine teenagers and we had a blast having them share what they were thankful for this past year. Sharon commented later that she did not feel stressed at all having to cook for all of them and I politely said, “That’s because you knew you were only competing with fast food” drive thrus.
SUNDAY EXPERIMENT
Going to open the first three Sundays of this month from noon till 5pm. Even though it seems that we live here, we have had some comments that people can’t seem to get here during regular hours. Hope this will help.
FREQUENT SHOPPER CARD WINNERS
Each December we draw 3 winners instead of the usual one, plus we do two of them for larger amounts. This month the winners are for $25 credit Tracy Lewis, for $50 Jennifer Mischke, and for $100 Erin Kelly. Remember we put the completed cards in our drawing jar and draw a lucky winner every month. That was fun making those calls!

Webkinz T-shirts are here. A one time purchase so we will not be able to order more. Today we have 5 styles, 3 of them short sleeve and 2 long sleeve in children’s sizes small, medium, large and extra large.
From TOMY a Choo Choo Loop that is an engine that will travel inside a loop which causes the loop to roll or it can be made into a up and down straight track. Designed for 28 months plus.
Melissa & Doug bring us some new items called “costume role play sets” that are for the 3-6 year old range of children. Each set is a worker such as a doctor, policeman, chef, etc (7 styles in all) and include accessories and wipe off name tags.
Also, we have for Christmas an assortment of books with Christmas themes for all ages. We also have received a new spinner rack of gift books, books with games, and infant activity books.
WORLD ENERGY BALL
We have had a lot of requests for an “energy ball” since a science conference in town a few weeks ago. We finally located a manufacturer and they are in stock. The one we have is painted like a globe, blue & green, and is 1 ½ inches in diameter or a plain white one. What it is used for is to demonstrate the completion of an electrical circuit. The ball has two metal tabs on it. If you touch both tabs it flashes a light and makes an errie sound. You can hold hands in a circle and the first and last person touch the ball and it lights, but if anyone breaks the connection in the circle it stops.
DISCONTINUED AND OVERSTOCKS
We are already taking markdowns on some discontinued and overstocked merchandise. Working on them daily as time permits. Some examples are selected Webkinz Regular $13.99 now $9.88, Ganz marionettes Regular $6.99 & $7.99 now $2.88, Lauri lacing sets Reg $13.99 now $8.88, and jigsaw puzzles as low as $3.88.
