Academic Toolbox August Newsletter

Hello Everyone, Have you melted yet?  This is one of the longest triple digit stretches I can remember.  I will let Sharon tell you about her hosting 3 grandchildren at once a little later in the letter.  July was a month that seemed like we had many out of town visitors, everyday.  That is always fun to hear how others perceive our store and hear the stories of their schools.  Thanks to all of our out of town guests.  Locals have not yet hit the panic button but maybe now that the calendar has changed we will start the back to school rush.  We have new items in stock and have worked most of them into our displays with only a couple of exceptions.

That is it for me except for a question?  How many of you would be friends to our store if we were to have a Facebook page?  We have had a couple of requests for quicker updates but not everyone would appreciate more than monthly e-mails.  Let me know.  Dwight

Ok my turn to report on the Grandkids visit.  The visit with Kian (8), Holly (4) & Marley (6) went well.  Our “field trips” included a day at Crescent Bar/Sunserra Resort where we spent the afternoon swimming at the resort pool.  What a beautiful place!!  Thanks to Marley’s other Grandma for inviting us to her “Vacation House”!!  We also took in a movie to see the new Ice Age movie; 3-D no less, a quick trip to Rocky Reach Dam, McDonalds for dinner one night and trip to Walla Walla park.  We also spent time at home playing the Wii, no Grandma does NOT do well with Mario Baseball or Mario go-Kart and of course visiting the kids many Webkinz on the computer, good thing we have two computers.  My living room became “Byers Fort” as the kids were very creative with building a fort that took over the whole living room. The parents did come back to claim their children and for the one weekend we were a family of TWELVE”.  Dwight & I decided to let the kids have the run of the house as we stayed at the Cedars Inn, just to have some peace & quiet. The kids are all back home continuing to do their own summer fun stuff.  Now that I have regained my bearings and sanity, we will focus on Back to School & Christmas. Dwight has again done some re-arranging, in order to highlight new BTS product and classroom resources.  We will be attending a gift show in Seattle the end of the month; I am hoping to find some new toys and games for the holiday s

NEW NEW NEW

First bit of news is that we have opened our online store again, after listening to complaints for about 4 months.  This is for you out of area people who have to pay the high gas prices to get to us.  We still advocate shopping locally but realize that some of you are up to 3 hours away.  So use it if it makes sense to you.  We would rather you shop online with us then send your money out of state.  The educational catalog is online and as time permits we will add our best selling items from homeschooling, toys, and games.

The No Yell Bell (save the teacher’s voice) is a new item from Learning Resources.  It is a classroom attention getter.  In the shape of a hand bell, it is an electronic device that has 7 sounds from a “twinkle chime” to a “bugle call” that sound when the bell is tilted.  Includes a volume control so it call be used indoors or out.

Center Solutions from Carson-Dellosa are sets of four games in a bookshelf holder.  Each game is for 2-4 players, includes gameboard, dice, tokens, and cards.  Available for grades kindergarten, first, and second in math and language arts.

Also from Carson are new “POP-IT” borders.  They are borders that you fold to become 3 dimensional.  Hard to visualize but we have one on display for you to see mounted.

Educational Insights has provided us with a new motivational tool call the Stamp Station.  It is six self-inking stamps in one unit.  Three English versions and one in Spanish.

“Eggspert” is also from Educational Insights and the new in that product is that it is now available in a “wireless’ format which makes it much more convenient to set up and use.  If you are not familiar with the old wired one, it is a set of six buttons for the students to “beep-in” on first to earn the right to answer.  Can be used to play games that will add lots of fun to learning.  The teacher control is also wireless so one can move about the room and not be locked to any one location.
