ACADEMIC TOOLBOX NEWSLETTER

AUGUST 2008

Hello Everyone, This month will be the shortest newsletter ever.  We want to inform the teachers of our appreciation weekend, a few new products to highlight, and some upcoming plans.  But, first, a big THANKS YOU to all who acknowledged our 40th wedding anniversary.  We had a ball having relatives from as far away as Wisconsin visit and participate.  On Sunday July 20 we renewed our vows (I kept teasing that they must not have worked the first time) and were toasted (roasted) with a PowerPoint presentation of our life together.  Of course it ended with the birth of our 3rd child ------ the Academic Toolbox.  A week of fun feels like we are now 3 weeks behind.

TEACHER APPRECIATION DAYS

This year we are going to have a three-day event to try and relieve the parking congestion and to allow more to attend.  This Friday 10-6, Saturday 10-5, and a special opening on Sunday 12-5 will hopefully spread the flow so as not to be crowded.  Sunday of course the businesses on either side will be closed which adds many parking places.  We will have discounts, prizes, and fun.  Anyone may participate each day but the prizes will have to be limited to teachers.  We will have a general CUSTOMER APPRECIATION CELEBRATION later in the year.  We are going to focus the 4th quarter of the year on family games to help encourage fun and learning at home.

FREQUENT SHOPPER CARD DRAWING

And the winner this month of a $25 certificate is Bev King of Wenatchee.  Way to go Bev.

NEW PRODUCT

Just received the end of last week is a series of 16 new science workbooks by Carole Marsh called the Science Alliance.  Based on national standards each book has reproducible worksheets and suggested activities for hands on learning.  They are written for ages 7-14 and cover topics like “Force and Motion” and each has a simple science fair project.  Retail is $6.99 each.

Coming from Evan-Moor a new series of “Daily 6-Trait Writing” that we will not have till the end of August for grades through 4th and the end of September for grades 5 and 6.  We will take reservations for these if you want to make sure you get one in the first shipment.  All of the daily books from Evan-Moor are popular and we expect these to also be.

Of course we have new Webkinz arriving near the end of each month.  This last shipment included the Rottweiler, crocodile, toucan, spotted leopard and others.  Near the end of this month we will have birds and fish.  We have the pet of the month on sale at $8.88, which is the Clydesdale this month and the Bullfrog next month.  Retired pets are 10% off.
