Academic Toolbox June Newsletter 2010

Rainy Greetings to everyone.  Wow, can you believe this weather?  Don’t think spring has sprung yet and I’m wondering if summer will hit??  I’m sure it will, eventually!

Well, here we are, about ready to end another school year. Wow, did it ever fly by or what?  Some might beg to differ, but to me it did!

Here’s wishing ALL students, teachers, school staff and parents a great fun filled summer.  If you’re traveling, remember us for the travel games, books and other fun resources.  A few new travel games are Travel Yamslam, Travel Battleship and Zingo to go.

Yes, we are changing and “a movin” things around here AGAIN.  If you can’t find what you’re looking for don’t feel alone. I can’t find stuff and I work here.  I just can’t seem to keep up with Dwight! Anyway, with moving merchandise around, I am finding lots & lots of merchandise that needs to Go.

So MARK your calendar for this FRIDAY & SATURDAY, WE’RE HAVING A REALLY BIG CLEARANCE SALE.  Priced to move fast!! We have books, classroom décor (some Christian too), incentives, stickers, games, puzzles and toys. Stop by and see what great bargains you can find.

MONTHLY DRAWING WINNER

This month’s drawing winner of a $25 shopping credit is Caitlin Velazquez of Wenatchee.  Remember after ten purchases not only do you earn a 20% discount, but your card when redeemed, is entered in our drawing.

SUMMER BRIDGE REMINDER

I know, you’ve heard it before, but it is important to keep those young minds active and ready to re-enter school next year.  Also, because of their design the books will introduce some of next year’s concepts to relieve the “fear factor” of a new grade.  It is tough enough to start training another teacher, meet new friends, even without the fear of the future.  Each book reviews the grade leaving and introduces the next grade.  Range from pre-k to kindergarten through the last book of 7th to 8th grade.  You might even discover your child struggling in an area that you could reinforce with extra materials this summer.

WOULD LIKE SOME INPUT ON BLOG/DISCUSSION GROUPS!

Dwight has been thinking about things and was wonder what kind of participation would happen if we did a blog or used the discussion button on facebook to discuss local issues of various types.  Overheard a comment from ex Supreme Court Justice Sandra O’Connor that the No Child Left Behind Act ruined social study and civic classes and in many cases eliminated them.  Mention that as a kind of thing that might raise some good discussion.  By the way, she is doing something about that.  She is working on curriculum and has a web site that teaches through video games all about civics.  Go to www.icivics.org and take a peek.  Let Dwight know what you think about that.

PICTURE SHARING

A picture of the train table that Dr. Cara of Wenatchee Children’s Dentistry put together for her play area.  She did a great job of choosing the extras to make it a very fun set.

ZIG ZIGLAR QUOTE

It’s not what happens to you that determines how far you will go in life; it is how you handle what happens to you.

BIG CHANGE

Our buddy, grandson, friend, basement dweller, technology helper, rack mover and assembler, lawn mower, what’s for dinner guy is moving to Bellingham the 2nd weekend of the month.  Cody and his girlfriend Kristine are both graduating WVC this month. They went to Bellingham to look over the town and get living arrangement ideas. Cody did a quick job interview while there and 3 days later got a call that he was hired.  So, we move them up, they come back for last classes and graduation ceremony then go right back up north to start work that Monday.  Will miss them a bunch.  I told Cody he needs to get his pilot’s license so he can come to my rescue quickly when needed.  Congratulations to them and all graduates that may be reading this.

DID YOU KNOW?

There are two words in the English language that have all five vowels in order: “abstemious” and “facetious”.

DID WE MENTION?

A gigantic, enormous, stupendous, colossal, garage sale is happening in the store Friday and Saturday.  Scheduled to rain, imagine that, so come on in and save!
