Academic Toolbox May Newsletter

I want to greet everyone with "spring greetings" but to be honest, I’m not sure if we are in the season of spring.  I feel a bit confused about the season and weather but as Dwight often says, doesn't take much to confuse me.

I'm going to say it anyway…Spring Greetings from the Toolbox.

Dwight and I want to express our concern for the educators, please know our thoughts are with you.  This is a very difficult time for you along with your students and parents.  We must remain hopeful that all with work out for the best for our children and their education.  As educators, if there is anything we can do for you, please let us know.

Travel update.  My daughter Tammy, Granddaughter Holly and I had the opportunity to travel to Wisconsin where we celebrated my sister & brother in laws 50th wedding anniversary.  I was 8 when they married and was honored to be a junior bridesmaid.  What wonderful memories and celebration. How fun to see and visit with family that I haven't seen in many years.

Mark your calendar and join us for our celebration of Ten Years in business.

Saturday June 13th.

To celebrate we will be giving 10% off on entire purchase, 10 pencils for $1.00, special treats and giveaways too.  Stop by so we can thank you for allowing us to celebrate 10 years!!  Without you, our valuable customers, we would not be where we are at today!!

Thanks to the Wenatchee World for the great little story they ran about our store last month.

CONGRATULATIONS to Kim Hoofnagle for being our frequent shopper card drawing winner this month.  $25 to spend at the store as she wishes.

DID YOU KNOW?

Leonardo Da Vinci invented the scissors.

NEW, NEW WHAT'S NEW??

Red trimmed closeout table!  We have a closeout table that you may have noticed that is red.  It is where items that have been reduced more than 50% will be placed.  Currently it is by the service counter at the end to the row of stickers and trimmers.

Qwirkle Cubes is a sequel to the popular original Qwirkle game.  It contains 90 cubes with colors and shapes that you play by connecting the cubes in rows or columns.  A little more skill in this as you can choose to roll some or all of your cubes to have more playable pieces.

New from LaMaze is a ‘foot finder & wrist rattle set’ that is cute garden bugs.  Keeps your baby self entertained.  Bugs are bright multi-colored creatures attached to socks and Velcro wrist bands.  Also for infants 6 months or older is a set of 6 pond animals that stack.

From Patch Products we have two new games, Buzzword and Apple Orchard.  Buzzword is a game where each answer you give from clues must contain the buzzword.  For a quick example: the buzzword is ball, your clue is “on top of spaghetti” making the correct answer, “meatball”.  Team has 45 seconds to try and guess from 10 clues.  For 4 or more players in teams, recommended age 10 and up.  Apple Orchard is a magnetic counting game for ages 3 and up with moves counting up to 6 and a basket you are trying to fill with 10 apples.  2 to 4 players.

Also new this month is a few new Thomas the Train pieces, some cut-outs, mini and/or large bulletin board sets with the ‘Go Green’ theme, and of course new Webkinz.  We have the Junior Webkinz that are very large and are designed for the 3 to 6 year old group.  Their website has no reading required so they can play just like big brother or sister.  We also have two styles of the new Signiture line that is a larger and more realistic animal that uses the regular site but comes with some extra bonus prizes.  We have 99 styles in stock today but each month there are less old styles available as the company seems to be cutting back their inventory.

OLD NEWS

Time to think about getting your Summer Bridge books before you leave on vacation.  If your child goes to the following schools consider buying your books from them as the parent organization at the school makes money from the sale.  Those participating are Sunnyslope, Washington, Lee, Kenroy, Cascade (elementary in East Wenatchee), and Rock Island.
