ACADEMIC TOOLBOX NEWS 4-3-2010

Spring Greetings,

Today is Easter Eve and we have both spring and snow.  Not a lot happening on the personal front.  Our biggest news is that our buddy Cody has been accepted to Western and he turns 20 today.  He is excited to really jump into learning his computer trade now that he is almost done with all of the basic requirements.

APOLOGY TIME

Understand that several groups last month received blank e-mails from us.  So sorry.  Figured out the problem so hopefully will never again occur.  All this technology and our expert is leaving for Western.

MEASUREMENT OF STUDENT PROGRESS (MSP)

Tests are coming soon and so are more of our practice workbooks and flash cards.  Should be here by the end of the week.  We have been selling more than expected (more than the WASL books) and were caught a little short.  First tests we understand will take place May 12th.

BUTTERFLIES

If you haven’t been following us on Facebook we have set up a butterfly garden.  On the 15th of March we received our larva and they grew to 1-˝ inch long caterpillars, attached themselves to the lid of the jar and spun web they wrapped themselves in to the chrysalis stage.  Now 3 of them have emerged but still waiting for two more.  Come on in and see them or look on our facebook page.  www.facebook.com/academictoolbox

REMINDER

Homeschool parent qualifying meetings at the college starting the 6th.  Call 682-6900 for information.

FREQUENT SHOPPER CARD DRAWING WINNER

This month’s winner is Lisa Loomis from East Wenatchee.  She wins $25 to spend here at the store.  Every completed shopper card is entered into our monthly drawing.

EARTH DAY

Earth Day is Thursday the 22nd.  Sharon has found several books that relate to Earth Day and of course we have science kits that do so also.  We do need to conserve the earth and cut down on our waste for the sake of our kids and grandkids.

SUMMER BRIDGE BOOKS

Just a reminder that we have revised Summer Bridge books arriving soon.  Last years copies are reduced 40% to clear for the new titles.  The books are designed to keep the mind fresh by review and to ease the fear by introducing some concepts for the next year.  If your school is participating in our co-op fundraiser, please buy from them to support the parent/school organization.

ZIG ZIGLAR QUOTE

“Motivation is like taking a bath; if you stop doing it, you begin to stink!”

FRANK SCHAFFER

Teachers will recognize the Frank Schaffer brand along with Ideal, Judy, Instructional Fair, and Spectrum.  They have been purchased by Carson-Dellosa and of course they have decided to discontinue a lot of things.  So far all the Frank Schaffer bulletin board sets, trimmers, and stickers have been discontinued.  We have them all marked down 50% or more.  HURRY DOWN because they will be no more!

NEW ITEMS

So to make this not repetitive, if you follow us on facebook, we will try to tell you of new items that we did not cover there.

This is Discovery Playhouse which is a large collapsible play house with fabric walls, a sturdy frame and more than 10 activities which include counting, sorting, matching, cascading balls, spinners, for lots of fun.

Next from Battat toys is a toy designed to be taken apart, reassembled, and played with

for hours of fun.  We have the airplane and a 4X4 vehicle in stock.  25 pieces that go together with a power driver utilizing 3 different bit styles.

From Hama we have bead kits that come in two size beads (the larger for the younger people) that you iron together when you have completed your artwork.

Lots of new items listed at facebook.com/academictoolbox .  You do not need to join facebook to look at our page.  If you do join and you connect with us as a friend you will see our posts as they happen.
