ACADEMIC TOOLBOX NEWSLETTER -- APRIL 2009

April is a week over and spring weather has finally arrived just as Spring Break ends.  Now we will have to add lawn mowing to our project list.  Nothing exciting the last few weeks at our house, just having fun watching all the news with the economy and realizing we are living in a time like no other.  Just heard that the high school students, in a Vancouver school, have been asked to bring in a ream of paper each.  Hope they are not asked to bring their own teachers.  Even though we don't like it, this time has some unique things going on that you can only laugh or cry about.  On to the news!

GOOD NEWS!

Our drawing winner this month is Janet Nielsen of East Wenatchee and a teacher in the Eastmont District.  She wins $25 to spend in the store at her pleasure.  For you new to our store and newsletter, we put the redeemed frequent shopper cards in a jar for a monthly drawing.

MORE GOOD NEWS!

In June our store will have been open for TEN years!  It has been quite a ride my wife said.  I asked what should I write and my pal Cody chimes in, "tell them you are going to be upgrading the prices"!  I'm not sure what that means but I do know we are going to CELEBRATE!  More to follow, since we are obviously having a communication breakdown tonight.

FOCUS!

Right now we have a small Easter display of books, including some Christian, some small gifts for the rabbit to bring, and a few other trinkets.  Once Easter is past we will use the space to break out the Summer Bridge books.  Also will put our focus on travel toys and games in the front display.  Trying something new this year with a small display of outdoor materials such as jump ropes, kites, sack race sacks, and giant bubble wands.  Come on down and take a peek.

NEW ITEMS

Lastly, four titles of Can of Beans.  These are cans that look like a can of beans that have inside 60 cards of questions about the subject.  The uniqueness is that the person giving the correct answer has to an action such as giving a “high five” or pretending to hit a homerun.  Intended to really make learning fun.  Titles in stock are AMERICA, PRESIDENTS, ANIMALS, WEATHER, and SOLAR SYSTEM.

 BUTTERFLY TIME

Just received a new supply of butterfly kits, nets, feeders, and books.

TRIVIA TIME

There are only four words in the English language that end in “dous”: tremendous, horrendous, stupendous, and hazardous.

Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

- Michael Jordan

Have a tremendous spring!
