ACADEMIC TOOLBOX NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2012
Welcome to 2012! May this be your best year ever! How exciting a chance to start fresh. We finished 2011 on a positive note at the store and want to continue that trend so watch for great things to come. Sharon and I had quiet holidays and enjoyed our two Christmas guests Cody and Kristine who are both students in Bellingham now. We will visit again as we travel to Bellingham to have Christmas and celebrate our son Dean’s birthday this month. Finishing his year right, our son-in-law Kyle, was promoted to Captain with the Vancouver Fire Department. Quote from Granddaughter Holly; “What do you get when life throws you oranges?” “What Holly?” “You get squirted in the eye and it hurts”! As they say, out of the mouth of babes. That is about all the news in our life right now so on to the store.
BIRTHDAY CLUB
If you have not read before, we have started a birthday club in the store. You must register in the store and then you receive a birthday card and a $10 certificate to use after your birthday. The idea is to add the $10 to any gifted monies to get that special toy or game that one has been saving for, or get the gift that you did not receive that was desperately wanted. We have already seen some happy smiles coming through the door holding their cards.
STRANGE FACTS
The largest hailstone recorded fell on April 14, 1986 in Bangladesh weighing 2.25 pounds. The hailstorm reportedly killed 92 people.
PTO, PTA, SCHOOL FUNDRAISER
Have been neglectful in putting out information on our fundraising program with Summer Bridge. Please contact Dwight if you are interested in using the Summer Bridge books as an easy fundraiser.
NEW PRODUCTS
As strange as it may sound, we have removable stickers for your keyboard to have some fun. The American flag, flowers, and other choices can be yours. Have the most talked about computer!
Synonyms is a new game for ages 12 and up that has three levels of play so it lends itself to classroom use as well as a great family game. We have a sample open so you can “try before you buy” to make sure it is for you. It will make learning fun!
BEAR TUESDAY
Next Tuesday the 10th Sharon will be reading the new book Three Bears of the Pacific Northwest at 10:30 AM. Bring your toddler down for a fun time. After the reading there will be an action activity and a quick craft.
COOPERATIVE GAMES
Two new games from Peaceable Kingdom that are as they describe, “games where everyone plays together, no one is left out, and everyone has fun”. Players work together against a common obstacle, not against each other. They build confidence, encourage inclusion, and teach sharing. The two games we have are Lost Puppies and Stone Soup. They both are for ages 5 and up and can be played by 2 to 6 players.
FREQUENT SHOPPER CARD DRAWING WINNER
And the winner is this month, of $25 worth of shopping, Tiffany Brine. Congratulations Tiffany! You can be a winner too, just fill up your card, save 20%, and be automatically entered for the next drawing.
ZIG ZIGLER QUOTE
“Of all the ‘attitudes’ we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing.”
